Based in Yorkshire, England, we specialise in all things stained glass, from repairs to full commissions. We employ the same techniques that have been used for hundreds of years, and love keeping the old craft of creating stained glass windows alive.
Our Techniques
A centuries-old craft
Many of the tools and techniques used in stained glass creation today wouls be recognised by stained glass artists hundreds of years ago.
First, a design is agreed upon with the client, then carefully drawn up by hand.

Glass is chosen by texture and colour before being cut to size and placed together. The pieces are then hand-painted, if required, and kiln-fired. Lead came (I-section) is used to hold the glass in place. The lead is then fluxed, soldered at the joints and cleaned gently.
Leaded light cement is pushed between the glass and the lead and dried with whitening before a final clean and polish, revealing a traditional stained glass window that will stand the test of time and look stunning in any environment.

1. Can you fit windows? Yes, we can! We can work with you for the whole process, from the design inception to the fitting of your new stained glass windows.

2. Can you seal stained glass windows into a double-glazed units? Yes, we can! Just ask us about this at the design stage.

3. Are stained glass windows weathertight? Yes, they are. The leaded light cement between the glass and the lead came creates a weathertight seal, so there are no leaks from rain or air.

4. Can you fit stained glass into a door? Yes - stained glass can be fit into doors and door surrounds, etc as well as traditional windows.

5. Can you paint glass for windows? We can! See pictures of our previous projects for examples of this. We paint the desired design onto the glass before firing it in a kiln, so the painted glass will last as long as the window.

6. I'm not sure about a design. Can you help? Whether you have a fully-formed idea of what you'd like, just an idea of a vague colour scheme or pattern, or have no dies at all - we can help with any design requirements you have.
About Us
SH Stained Glass is a family run business based on more than 38 years' experience in traditional painted and leaded glass windows. We have experience making and fitting windows in internal and external doors, door surrounds, cabinets, lanterns, and wood, stone and metal frames.

As well as creating new windows from design to fitting, a big part of our work is restoration. We repair windows both in our studio and on site wherever possible. We have experience with repairs for domestic customers and for churches and minsters.
